How Cat Door Installation in Glass Works
Cat doors in glass follow the same professional process as all our pet door installations. Because toughened glass cannot be cut once it has been tempered, the opening for the cat door must be cut before the glass goes through the toughening process. That means we replace the full glass panel rather than cutting into your existing one.
1. Measure and assess. We visit your property and measure the existing glass panel, the frame and the ideal position for the cat door. Door height is based on your cat’s belly clearance from the floor.
2. Select the door. We supply cat doors from trusted brands including Pettek, TransCat Doors and Pet Doors Australia. We also offer microchip-compatible doors for owners who want to control which cats can enter.
3. Manufacture the new panel. A new panel of toughened safety glass is manufactured with a pre-cut opening sized to the selected cat door. The glass meets Australian Standards (AS 1288) and the Building Code of Australia.
4. Install and test. We fit the new panel into your frame, install the cat door, test the flap and locking mechanism and remove the old panel from your property.
Choosing the Right Cat Door
Cat doors are smaller than dog doors, but sizing still matters. A door that is too tight will discourage your cat from using it, especially if they are a larger breed or carrying a bit of extra weight.
Standard cats (domestic shorthair, Burmese, Siamese): A standard cat door with an opening around 150mm x 150mm to 165mm x 175mm is suitable for most cats.
Large cats (Maine Coon, Ragdoll, British Shorthair): A medium pet door with an opening around 180mm x 200mm or larger gives enough clearance for bigger breeds.

Locking Options and Security
Modern cat doors come with multiple locking modes that give you control over when and how your cat uses the door.
4-way locking is the most common option. It allows you to set the door to: fully open (in and out), in only (cat can enter but not leave), out only (cat can leave but not enter), or fully locked. This is useful for keeping your cat indoors at night or during bad weather.
Microchip-compatible doors read your cat’s existing microchip and only unlock for registered animals. This prevents stray cats, possums or other animals from entering your home through the cat door. No collar or tag is needed.
Manual locking panels are a simpler option that uses a sliding cover to lock the door when not in use.

If your cat is primarily an indoor cat with supervised outdoor access, a 4-way locking door or microchip door gives you the control to manage their movements. If your cat is an outdoor cat, a standard flap with basic locking is usually sufficient.
